Sylo's Audience Engagement Rate is our solution to the traditional, legacy engagement rate, which is traditionally calculated as likes + comments / followers. 

As most follower counts include a number of dormant, inactive, or invalid accounts, we've concluded that the legacy engagement rate is an ineffective measure of true engagement. 

Our audience engagement rate takes cumulative engagements divided by total reach (unique accounts that have viewed the content). 

Please keep in mind that reach can vary from creator to creator, and must be taken into consideration when reviewing the AER of a piece of content.
